Hubbard in 1829 the orphan son of Samuel RW found in Campbell co., but other sources say he died as early as 1828). There are problems with the dates and conflicting information in the documentation.  (I believe there may be more than one Samuel and more than one William that the data references).

General Discussion

                     William M. Hubbard and desendents

                     1) Albert, Richard, Bird, Aretta? Why the popularity of the names that don't appear before 1800? (Albert Gallatin was a popular polititian late 1700)

Firstly, Micager must be Micheal based on the variations seen in the tax records, and the name Hubbard, I assume to be correct despite all the various spellings. The records bring up the question: Are there two Williams (William N and  William M) or can it be assumed that the constant acreage indicates only one? Who is William G. who appeared only once in 1788?

Secondly, during this period in Campbell Co., Virginia, there are perhaps as many as three Samuel's and three John's  which I have made no effort to separate.

In Charlotte Co. William Hubbard b. 1744 known as Col. Hubbard lived on Louse Creek after 1769. Only two children are documented (census data indiates that he had only two) who later lived in Buckingham Co., Virginia. Many clues have led to this William, especially if he had a son, John, which he apparantly did not. For example William Hutcheson appears as surety at the wedding of Winnie Hubbard (daughter of Thomas and Col.'s sister, is this right?) to Moses Bond 1791.

Howard G. Walker sent me information about some Campbell Co. Hubbard names. He believes that Samuel came from New Kent Co., Virginia based on a source by Leslie S. Hubbard "Hubbard Decendents" which I have not located.  There are problems with his data because other sources have strong claim to Samuel Hubbard who served in the Revolutionary War  b. 1757.

There is no information about our Wiliam M. Hubbard in this file, and nothing about John Hubbard either! However, I found a reference that may tie at least one John to this family:

Hubbard Newletter post: need volume and date

Samuel b abt 1743 Goochland Rev. War Soldier in Bedford died before 1841 in Campbell Co., Virginia leaving two sons, James born in Bedford, Elisha who went to Harrison co., Indiana in 1808. On April 25, 1841, signed by James and Elisha Hubbard, brothers, to John Hubbard, a power of attorney to settle the estate of Samuel Hubbard.

The county of Campbell was formed from Bedford Co. on 1782, which was formed from Lunenburg Co. on 1746, and from Brunswick Co., from 1720. I have found more records via the Charlotte Co.  however. Treasury Warrant: 1779—1948
The American Revolution brought much change to Virginia, including a new state government. Because of the upheaval, no grants were made between 1775 and 1779, when an act establishing the Land Office was passed. A register, elected by the General Assembly, was to administer the distribution of Virginia’s waste and unappropriated lands. This system remained the same until the mid-twentieth century. Under the act a person could purchase as much vacant land as desired by payment to the treasurer of a fee—£40 for each one hundred acres, later changed to dollars and cents. The treasurer issued a receipt for this payment, which was presented to the state auditor, who in turn issued a certificate noting the amount of land to which the person was entitled. The certificate was then taken to the register of the Land Office, who issued a warrant, called a treasury warrant, authorizing any surveyor to lay off the quantity of land specified. There are both old (1779–1783) and new (1787–1952) treasury warrants, each series consecutively numbered beginning with one. Treasury warrants contain the name of the warrantee, the amount of acreage and money paid for the warrant, the warrant number, to whom the land was ultimately granted, the reference to the grant book and page number, and the name of the county in which the land was granted. These are available on microfilm at the Library.
